There are some people who won’t like the redesign of the 2020 Toyota GR Supra, mainly because it doesn’t have a large rear wing spoiler. Toyota designers wanted to use the last 30 years of aerodynamic innovation to create something different. This new Supra borrows some of its looks from the fourth generation Supra of the 1990s, but it has its own unique identity.
The 2020 Toyota GR Supra has a low center of gravity and a pointed nose with plenty of intake cuts and swoops. There’s a long, sweeping hood and a bubble-domed cabin that fits over the rear center of gravity. The lines are all rounded at the edges, modernizing the Supra’s overall design and making it appear more upscale. However, the high rear haunches instantly remind onlookers of the rear wheel push and road-sticking handling of the new Supra.
There are three different model trims available. There’s the 3.0, 3.0 Premium and the Launch Edition. The Launch Edition will only have 1500 available units and offers three premium color palettes. One of the most distinctive ones is Absolute Zero with a silver base color, matte black wheels, and red accents.
2020 Toyota GR Supra Performance Capabilities
If you’re in the market for a new 2020 GR Supra, then you’d better be a fan of BMW engineering. The powerplant of the 2020 GR Supra is a BMW-supplied 3.0 Liter, inline 6 cylinder engine that propels the rear wheels. It’s a twin-scroll single turbo that’s managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of performance numbers, the Supra can achieve 335 horsepower and 365-pound feet of torque. That will put this nimble little sports car at zero to 60 in 4.1 seconds. Just don’t expect to blow the doors off a supercar. Your top speed in a GR Supra is 155 MPH. Gas mileage is rather impressive for a sports car, as well. The 2020 GR Supra gets 24 MPG in the city and 31 on the highway.

2020 Toyota GR Supra Interior Amenities
The interior cockpit of the 2020 Gr Supra doesn’t favor the driver as much as some would expect. It’s a decent-sized two-seater cabin with 50.9 cubic feet of passenger space. Again, you’ll get the BMW echo inside the 2020 GR Supra because most of the components are sourced from BMW. For example, the center rotary knob is the same one you’d find inside a BMW coupe.
The sport seats are heavily padded and bolstered. Leather-trimmed seats are standard and so is a leather-wrapped steering wheel. You get a 14-way power adjustable driver’s chair to dial in your personal settings. To delight the eyes, there are some carbon fiber inlays speckled around the cabin.
The digital display in the center console sits rather high on the dashboard. It comes as 6.5 inches on the base model GR Supra, but the 3.0 Premium and Launch Edition up the size to 8.8 inches. With the rotary controller, the touchscreen interface seems a bit redundant.

2020 Toyota GR Supra Safety Features
Thankfully you won’t see any parceling or bundling of safety features across the three different model trims. Most of the safety features you’d want on a 2020 GR Supra will come as standard equipment on all models. Every new Supra gets a rearview camera, automatic high beams, and advanced airbags all around the cabin. There are a host of electronic traction and stability controls at play. You also get a pre-collision system that includes pedestrian detection. Lane departure warnings are standard, as well.
Crash ratings are a bit premature for such a new vehicle, but auto enthusiasts are optimistic about the Supra’s chances at high marks. However, the GR Supra allows drivers to toggle through their stability control system. It can be set to SPORT mode for a looser cornering feel, but it can also be switched off. This could be dangerous for a novice driver in a fast, rear-wheel-drive vehicle like the 2020 GR Supra.

The 2020 GR Supra revisits one of the most loved sports cars ever built. Previous generations of the Supra were prized for their ease of service and modification. There are already rumors stirring about a manual gearbox and a turbo four-cylinder engine. Time will tell if these updates bear any fruit.
For now, the 2020 GR Supra has a nimble powertrain that promises to stay in line. The inline 6 cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive and low center of gravity work well together to make every mile more exciting. It will be interesting to see new mods of the 2020 GR Supra that take the training wheels off, so to speak.
Style-wise, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra doesn’t outshine its predecessors. The new Supra will need to stand out on its performance and not its giant rear wing. That seems proper for 2020, but auto enthusiasts and purists will forever lament the style chops of the third and fourth generation Supras.
